Making this image involved minimal effort. I was playing around with lighting from another image that I had made, and decided to wrap the main figure in ninja garb. Once I’d done that, I simply dropped in a castle model to act as a backdrop and balance the image, and it was done. I did some minor postwork to darken and tint the image to suggest a moonlit night.
Incidentally, I was glad to find a use for the Kumamoto Castle model. I have actually visited Kumamoto-jo so, out of sentimentality, I bought the model when it was on sale once. Having done so, I regretted the purchase slightly -- not because it isn’t a beautiful piece of work, but because I didn’t know when I’d find an opportunity to use it. But it turned out to be just what I needed as a backdrop for my lady ninja.
