Playing around with an image of a woman sitting on a throne, I found that my female subject was looking distinctly pleased with herself. Once I added a dagger to her hand, the story suggested itself.

The ‘afternoon sunlight’ effect is created with a distant light placed above the scene and angled downward at a slight angle.

I did some minor postwork in Photoshop to clean up parts of the render that didn’t look quite right.
