The image was inspired by a banner ad for an online role-playing game called EVE Online. The ad is a 'skyscraper-format' banner showing a spacecraft against a misty blue background; it's actually quite a lovely image.
I liked the image enough to want to make my own version but being somewhat lazy I turned the spacecraft into an asteroid, which was modelled simply enough as a Bryce symmetrical lattice. The other elements of the scene include a planet - a single sphere - two light sources, and a couple of cloud planes to add to the cloudy misty background.
