The Killing Machine
This was my entry to the 2011 WAR contest organized by Mercenary Studios.
My initial inspiration for the image was a photograph from Afghanistan showing soldiers moving through a dust storm. I set out to recreate the same kind of look, using Carrara's volumetric clouds. The introduction of the BEO Reaper figure changed the image to something more dynamic - a scene of actual combat - with human soldiers fighting against an apparently unstoppable adversary.
Figures and props in the scene are mostly purchased content, although the shell casings in the foreground were modeled in Carrara. The BEO Reaper has been slightly retextured to fit with the overall tones of the scene.
The muzzle flare from the robot's weapon uses a bulb light with effects turned on.
