I've always wanted to make an image of Pepper, one of the two cyborg heroes of Tobias Buckell's 'Xenowealth' novels. Pepper and his colleague Nashara are satisfyingly bad-ass characters: superhuman, but not invulnerable.

I'm not sure if this is exactly how Buckell pictures Pepper; I'm not even sure if it's exactly how I picture him. But it's better than my previous attempts, and it captures some of his key attributes: dreadlocks, trenchcoat, and general air of unflappable deadliness. When I went back to "Crystal Rain" to confirm that I had remembered Pepper's appearance correctly, I realized that I was missing one important element, namely his top hat. This made me think that Pepper really deserves a more idiosyncratic and original look, instead of being simply a big mean-looking guy with dreadlocks. Still, it's a start.
